Humidor troubles

Well since I have been in New Mexico I have been having trouble keeping the humidor up at 70%. Someone told me to add a larger bowl of water and a sponge in there to help. It seems to have worked. I think I am going to pick up a second smaller humidor. I am hoping that by not getting into my large humidor couple times a day that it will keep closer to 70%. Right now I am using a zip lock bag to test the theory and it seems to be helping also. Of coarse now I have to convince the wife that I need another humidor. I'm not sure she is really happy with my buying new lighters every few months and in between that new cutters and such. If I come home with a new humidor she may pimp me out on the street to pay for it.
Maybe I will build my own. I will update when I get started. Need to do some research.

Update to humidor.

I have had a small bowl with water and large sponge inside, this seems to have helped. The humidor now a least is staying near 67 to 71 percent. Not sure why this works so much better than store bought but it does. I have also started putting 5 to 6 cigars in a zip lock and keeping it outside the humidor. This way I do not not open it as much. So since this has worked so well I will buy a small 25 count humidor and keep daily cigars in that. Now I just have to convince mama that I need it. Any ideas???

Snow ???????

What the hell is the white crap?? Where did it come from? Why can I see my breath? SNOW! I hate snow. We thought that it only snowed once in a while and that it melted that day. Boy did someone lie.

It seems funny to see snow in the desert.  It is a beautiful site. On our way to Durango CO there were many places you could see snow on one side of the highway and none on the other. Here in Gallup we are at 6500 ft of elevation so we get a few inches every time it ...<< MORE >>

Gallup Balloon Festival

We got to the balloon festival on the last day. This is the second largest festival in the U.S. We arrived a little late and I really thought that we were going to miss everything as I could see balloons leaving on the drive up. After much wining on my part and wife just letting me go, we arrived and I could see 95% of balloons still on the ground. So we spent the next couple of hours watching  the balloons being enflated and launched.
The wind was so slow that the balloons stayed bunched up and never really left ...<< MORE >>

No new beers in Tucson

Have been in Tucson for a month now and I have not found any new beers to try. This sure seems strange after Seattle. I hope to get out next week and find a brew pub I heard about yesterday. Then at least I will have something to write about.
I did find a good beer in Bryce Canyon Ut. though. I can't remember the name to save my life. There were two that were very good.
It has been so HOT here in Tucson that I have just been drinking Light ales. Not that I drink much anything else but I ...

Great beer

Well, I had to try a couple of new ones. I liked that Deschutes brewery beer so much that I tried another one. Mirror Pond Pale ale, damn was that good. Has a very nice carmel flavor with just a little bite at the end. I am about to go spark up 20 dollar Partagas limited reserve 1996. I think this is going to be a good combo and hey.... football is on.

Anybody had this one. What was your take on it??

Drew estate cigars

I smoked a couple of La Vieja Habanas this week. I had a corojo, and a Maduro, that were as always very good. Both were corona size cigars and went well with beer and FOOTBALL. As always I enjoy this line because it is a cheap cigar that tastes like it costs and lot more. I will grade later.

Hoegaarden white ale

I had a Belgium style beer, can't remember the name. On the Hoegaarden website they say it is a white ale. It was outstanding, with a heavy floral after taste. I really enjoyed it. It was mild not hoppy at all. I will have to look up more on it.

The place I found this was in Duvall Washington on our way to Snoqualmie Falls off highway 203. Duvall is north of the falls. It was a very scenic drive and we just decided to have lunch there. They have a small restruant and bar but seem to do a good ...

Blue Boar beer

Ha, found another good one. Got a 6 of Henry Weinhard's Blue Boar Pale Ale, outstanding!!!  It is made in Hood river OR.
I am really going to enjoy this one. Great taste, not to bitter, and a lite hoppie taste to finish. Good flavor! I may have to throw a few of theses in closet for down the road with some friends.

Found a couple of new cigars.

I found two new cigars that I have never seen before. I can't wait to try them. The first is a La Aurora Emerald packed in a green tube like the rest. I have never seen one of these and thought they were new however, my cigar guy says that they are just limited, hard to get, and been around a while.  The second is a Partagas Limited Reserve 1996. the bottom say decadas and I don't know if it part of the label or not. I really had a hard time understanding the guy at the cigar store. The ...<< MORE >>
